How Do Pharmaceutical Costs Impact Physicians?

Although physicians have been concerned about the cost pharmaceuticals in the past, it has never directly impacted providers individually. However, with the rising cost of pharmaceuticals—which are currently increasing at double the healthcare rate—physicians must consider the cost to patients when they are prescribing medication. Advisory Board Consulting and Management Executive Vice President James Bonnette, MD, outlines the impact pharmaceutical costs will have on physicians. Dr. Bonnette notes that physicians must understand the costs of drugs as it will drive the outcomes for patients.
