PharmaBoardroom Releases 'Healthcare and Life Sciences Review China' April 2019 Pharma Report

thechestnutpost | April 22, 2019

From the world’s ninth largest pharma market in 2007 to its second-biggest merely 12 years later, China and its growth story are impossible to ignore. China now accounts for a significant share of revenues for most major multinational pharmaceutical companies and almost 40 percent of total global venture capital investment across all industries in 2018 came from the Middle Kingdom. Further, Chinanow has ambitions to become a global biotechnology powerhouse – a push supported by the state. For any healthcare or life sciences company sincerely committed to bringing treatments to the greatest number of patients, a footprint in China is a must, given that the country’s population of 1.3 billion people makes up nearly a fifth of the world’s total. China’s massive and unprecedented economic growth over the last 40 years has lifted millions of its citizens from poverty and created numerous investment opportunities across a variety of fields. This is especially true of healthcare and the life sciences; now designated “a strategic sector for priority development” by the Chinese government. Despite an enormous market size and burgeoning innovation ecosystem, a significant push is needed both to boost health outcomes for individual Chinese patients and instate Chinese companies at the top table of global healthcare innovation.

SoniVie receives IDE approval from FDA for its Pilot study to treat Hypertension with its Renal Artery Denervation TIVUS™ technology

SoniVie | June 20, 2022

SoniVie, an Israeli company developing a novel proprietary Therapeutic Intra-Vascular Ultrasound System to treat a variety of hypertensive disorders, announced that on May 5th 2022 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted IDE approval for its "REDUCED1" Pilot study to treat Resistant Hypertension Patients with Renal Artery Denervation using TIVUS™, its innovative Ultra-Sound Ablation System. Resistant hypertension is defined as blood pressure higher than 140/90 mmHg despite use of three antihypertensive medications of different classes at the best tolerated doses, one of which must be a diuretic. Millions of people world-wide suffer from resistant hypertension which substantially increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney failure. "We are very pleased that FDA has approved the REDUCED1 study. Sites initiation has started, and many clinical teams have responded very favourably about participating to the study. There is a significant number of patients that may benefit from our technology and we are genuinely happy for this important step towards the introduction of TIVUS™ in the US. There is a lack of effective therapeutic solutions for patients suffering from resistant hypertension, and physicians are looking forward to a safe, effective and easy to use device treatment," Christian Spaulding, CMO, SoniVie Ltd "This is a significant US Regulatory milestone for SoniVie, starting the feasibility study using the Ultra-Sound ablation platform in the US for the Renal Denervation indication. This is a major step and priority in the company's history," says Tomaso Zambelli, CEO, SoniVie LTD. The REDUCED1 study will further expand the Company's clinical experience based on two clinical trials in Renal Denervation performed using the earlier generation of the TIVUS™. Renal Denervation with TIVUS™ is a minimally invasive procedure that uses high-frequency non-focused Ultra-Sound energy to ablate nerves in the renal artery. This causes a reduction in the nerve activity, which may decrease blood pressure. This procedure is designed for patients who suffer from resistant hypertension. About SoniVie SoniVie is a medical device company developing the TIVUS™, the only Ultra-Sound Denervation platform with active development programs in three therapeutic areas: pulmonary artery denervation for pulmonary hypertension, renal artery denervation for resistant hypertension, and lung denervation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with chronic bronchitis. These diseases affect millions of patients in the United States and Europe.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and AIkido Pharma Inc. to Codevelop Novel Immuno-Oncology Cancer Treatment

AIkido Pharma Inc. | March 15, 2022

AIkido Pharma Inc. announced that the Company and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have agreed under their Master Collaboration Agreement to co-fund and codevelop a novel immuno-oncology treatment designed to promote the destruction of cancer cells by a patient's own "killer" T-cells. The Company and Cedars-Sinai will share costs, expenses and management of the drug co-development and will leverage the talent of Cedars-Sinai Technology Ventures and the lead scientists who originated the novel treatment. The parties will also share in the proceeds of any commercialization of the treatment. The compounds to be codeveloped target the cellular pathway that causes CD8+ T-cells to enter an "exhausted state," rendering them ineffective against cancer cells. The new treatment targets and blocks recently discovered transcription factors essential for T-cells to enter the "exhausted state," the goal of which is to strengthen the ability of a patient's T-cells to retain their capacity to destroy cancer cells. "Our agreement with Cedars-Sinai to collaborate in the funding and monetization of novel disease treatments is a major step for the Company. I am thrilled that Cedars-Sinai will be co-funding this project and providing its exceptional staff of scientists to advance this new cancer treatment, which I believe speaks volumes about its potential." Anthony Hayes, CEO of AIkido About AIkido Pharma Inc.
