The UK Government is set to offer a new grant through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) to create new manufacturing facilities to accelerate drug development. Announced by new Universities and Science Minister Sam Gyimah, the £70m funding will also be utilized for new medical projects such as the use of virtual reality to aid in patient recovery and digital speech therapy for stroke and brain injuries. The investment is expected to increase the number of job opportunities, bolster the National Health Service (NHS) and improve care for patients. It forms part of the government’s upcoming UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Research and Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap Programmed, which will include the development of scientific facilities, major equipment, scientific data, e-infrastructures and communications networks by 2019.
